a new season - a new me

I have the delight of taking the Larkspur ferry into the city everyday for work. Today, on this hot and gorgeous morning, I pulled out my left over Sunday Times and began reading the Opinion section. A few minutes later I found myself engrossed by an article called Capitalism After the Fall, and how President Obama, while dealing with two dozen real issues at once, is already setting the tone for the debate about our new future as capitalists after all the recent events – not an easy topic.

It wasn’t the article that moved me as much as my surprise at my own reaction – a type of gut involvement, mixed with admiration and inspiration, that has continued to evolve since the campaign speeches that kept me riveted for many months. I’m a generally “middle of the road” Californian, transplanted from a lovely, but conservative southern state where I was raised. Watching Obama’s campaign style was a first, but having him elected as President was a life changing event for me.

I wonder if other “easy to put into a demographic box” folks feel like I do – that for years of my adult life I felt no connection much at all with what was going on in Washington. And now I feel like I owe it to myself, and to others, to try to participate in every way possible. Who knew? Anyway, it’s a gorgeous day!
